FAQs

01 -

What should I expect during my first consultation?

Your consultation will take place in a private room in the salon. We will have chat and I can assess your hair loss and discuss the best options for you. You will be able to look at and try different wigs or hairpieces in a variety of colours. I always allow plenty of time so that you can relax. Times can vary depending on your individual needs and requirements but typically lasts an hour. When coming in for your consultation you don't need to bring anything but if you are looking for something in particular, a photograph of a look you would like would be helpful. Consultations are free.

02

How do I prepare for a wig fitting?

We recommend that you come with your hair clean. If you wear a wig cap, please bring one along, or we can provide one for you during the fitting if required.

03

Can I style my wig as I would my natural hair?

Styling a wig or hairpiece varies depending on the type of hair it’s made from. Use a wide tooth comb or wig brush to gently detangle, starting from thends and working upwards. Avoid using heat tools on fibre hair. If necessary, on high heat fibre or real hair use a low heat setting and protect with a thermal spray. Experiment with different accessories such as clips, bands and scarves to create a variety of looks.

04

Do you offer custom-made wigs?

We specialise in ready to wear wigs tailored to your exact specifications. From the hair type to the colour and fit, everything can be customised to ensure you get a wig that feels right and looks great. Choosing the right wig or hairpiece can be overwhelming. It is important to consider style, colour and fit. The Wig Dresser can help you find the right style to suit you.

05

What maintenance is required for my wig?

Maintenance varies depending on the wig type and how often you are wearing it. Generally, human hair wigs require similar care to natural hair, such as washing, conditioning, and styling as required. Synthetic wigs also require washing and special care when styling to avoid damaging the fibres. When you purchase a wig or hairpiece, you will receive care instructions.

06

How long does a wig last?

The lifespan of a wig varies based on how often it's worn, the material, and how well it's cared for. Generally, with proper care, human hair wigs can last over a year, while synthetic wigs might last 4 to 6 months with regular use.

07

Can I wear my wig for swimming or during physical activities?

Wigs can be worn for physical activities, but we recommend using a secure cap or special adhesive to keep it in place. However, chlorine and saltwater may damage the wig fibers, especially in synthetic wigs, so it's best to avoid wearing your wig while swimming.

08

What are the costs involved with wig fitting and styling services?

Costs may vary depending on the type of wig and the customisation required. Your consultation is free and when purchasing a wig or hairpiece, fitting and styling is included in the price.

09

Do you accept NHS vouchers?

Unfortunately, I am not able to accept NHS vouchers.
